CUNY degree programs are on the rise, and the University of Southern California has become one of them.
In 2018, the university surpassed the number of online degree programs that the previous year.CUNY offers two online programs for those interested in data scientists, one in the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) and the other in the School of Information and Systems Management (SIS).
The university has created an online degree program for students who want to get more involved with the data science industry.
“We have a huge number of students who come here who have the desire to learn more about data science,” said Robert McKeown, vice president for business and technology at CUNy.
“There’s a lot of demand for that.”
Students can take the online degree in the CSM program or the SIS program, which is a two-year, four-credit master’s degree that is offered in the Department of Information Systems Management.
Both programs offer students the opportunity to work in a variety of industries, from research to business.
The CSM offers a three-year bachelor’s in computer science, while the Sis program offers a four-year and five-year degree.
McKeon said CUNys students can choose to complete the master’s program in CSM or the master of business and management program in the Sisp program.
In addition to the data scientist degree, students in the graduate programs in the computer science and information science departments can take an online master’s in data scientist, and an online certificate in information systems management.
The certificate, which includes a master’s thesis, also can be applied to the job market.
McKeown said he believes that students who choose to work as data scientists are in demand, and that the demand for the information technology jobs is increasing at the same time that the number and cost of job opportunities for the data scientists in the U.S. are increasing.
“Data science is in high demand, especially in information technology,” he said.
“It’s a good time to be in the data industry.”
McKeon is optimistic that as more students graduate from the programs, the demand will continue to increase, and by 2021, the number will have grown by about 200 percent.
