The U.N. Security Council on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution calling on Tehran to dismantle its nuclear program and halt all enrichment activities in return for lifting international sanctions.
The vote came hours after the U.K. and U.E. said they had reached a deal with Iran that would ease sanctions and lift some of the economic penalties in exchange for Tehran suspending nuclear activities.
A resolution on Tuesday was the first step toward a possible U.A.E.-led conference in Geneva to hammer out a framework for a nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers.
The resolution is designed to set the stage for a U.P. meeting between world powers and Iran on Wednesday that could lead to a final accord.
